Botanical Garden

The Botanical Garden in Liberec is the oldest in the Czech Republic that has exceeded 110 years since its founding. The Garden aims to be a prestigious institution, a pride of professional civilisation, inspire with ideas of its garden art, as well as shape the style. The Botanical Garden of Liberec cares for the richest collections of exotic plants in the Czech Republic. Annually it is visited by 100,000 people.

Liberec ZOO

Liberec Zoo is the oldest facility of its kind of the former Czechoslovakia. The garden, established in 1919, has become during its existence an internationally recognized breeding facility. Since the sixties, Liberec Zoo reaches regular attendance over 300,000 people per year, exceptionally well over 400,000.

Ještěd

The dominant of Liberec is the 1012-meter high Jested Mountain, crowned with a breathtaking silhouette of a television transmission tower and a mountain hotel (1966 to 1973). The author of the project, architect Karel Hubacek, was awarded the highly prestigious Perret Award for his work (1969). From the top of the mountain, which can be reached on foot or by an aerial tramway, you will have a beautiful view of the surroundings.

The beginning of the gallery as a legally independent institution can be found in the period after the World War II. At the beginning of the new millennium, there was another significant legislative change, the Regional Gallery in Liberec became on 1 October 2001 the only collection gallery – an art museum of the Liberec Region.

The Museum of North Bohemia in Liberec is one of the largest museums in the Czech Republic. It was founded in 1873 as the Museum of Decorative Arts and is the oldest museum of its kind in the Czech Republic. In three exhibition halls and an outdoor atrium about 20 exhibitions are held annually , many of them being from the collections stored in the museum.

Swimming Pool

Originally a purely sporting facility is specifically formed into a recreation and relaxation area, which nowadays provides all services associated to the operation of the swimming pool. Outside of the physical activity of swimming, it provides a wide space for active relaxation. The biggest attraction is a 150 m long stainless roller coaster.

Lookout – Public Gardens

A 35-meters high dominant of the Public Gardens heritage site with 155 steps served from 1901 until the mid-fifties, when it was closed for safety reasons. Complete reconstruction of the tower was carried out in May 1998 by a project of Ing. Fr. Cejka. Now the observation tower has been opened to the public again. It is open every day from 10.00 a.m. to 5.00 p.m.

Regional Scientific Library

The author of the Regional Scientific Library and of the synagogue is a significant Czech architect Radim Kousal.

Out of about 1.3 million volumes of books and other media, it provides a variety of information and bibliographic services, electronic databases, and an Internet access including Wi-Fi network.

Part of this large building is also a modern Jewish prayer room, such as “The Reconciliation Building” that was completed in 2000 and a covered multi-storey car park.
